Conventional Fixed Bridgework (see video)
Fixed bridgework involves preparation of the teeth on each side of the gap so that crowns (caps) can be placed. The crowns are joined or bridged together by the replacement porcelain tooth forming a rigid bridge, which is cemented onto the anchoring teeth. It is often the treatment of first choice when the adjacent teeth are worn, eroded, disfigured or heavily filled.

Bonded Maryland Bridgework
Bonded Maryland bridgework is fixed to the back of the tooth adjacent to the gap via a bonded “wing”. Treatment involves minimal preparation to the back of the tooth. Bonded bridgework is appropriate when the tooth adjacent to the gap is intact and there is plenty of tooth enamel to reliable bond onto. It is most commonly used to replace missing upper lateral incisors. An alternative treatment would be an implant.
